Room data sheets (or RDS) are used to collect the necessary information and requirements for each room on the project. They are usually prepared by the client during the briefing (also known as architectural programming in the US) phase of the design process, but may also be updated during the design process to reflect evolving requirements or to give an improved and more precise view for those in charge of the project’s delivery.
The Room Data Sheets SmartTool allows you to create rooms (or space), data sheets using a Revit project. It’s a fast and precise tool that can be used for sheets, elevations and schedule views. The tool is able to create 3D, plans elevations, and schedule views for rooms or spaces, all of which are named parametrically and the sheets are numbered on the new sheets.
By default, the tool will utilize the Room Numbering template and Sheet Format that are set by the Revit project However, a different sheet name and style may be selected from the Tool Options tab. Alternately, click ‘Load’ …’ on the toolbar to load previously saved configurations which will replace the current settings. This reduces the amount of manual re-work required for each different room or space type and size.
The ‘Naming’ tab allows the user to choose if the chosen room/space is included in the sheet’s Name text box that appears on the left side of the screen. The ‘View Title’ option specifies what text appears in the title bar for each view. View Increment specifies how many increments there are between each view on the sheet. The ‘Spacing’ feature allows you to set the spacing between each view. The ‘Exclude Titles from Estimating View Sizes for Sheets’ choice will prevent titles being included in the calculation of the number of views on a sheet.
